Hi I am Morte (Ryan) my first post…

Has anyone else built a long-term tarot archive with ChatGPT or another AI?

Over the past year I’ve been developing what I call the 13th Gate, where each of the 78 tarot cards has its own ongoing conversation chat within a larger tarot project. Every time a card comes up, I add to that card’s archive with the context of the draw, the question or field condition, the insights that seemed useful, and, over time, what actually happened or what I learned.

It’s become less about predicting the future and more about studying patterns, symbolism, and how my understanding of each card evolves through real life. I can even see which cards come up often, which haven’t appeared in a long time, and how different decks and authors have added new perspectives along the way.

I’m curious if anyone else has experimented with something similar. If so, what has your experience been?

Last month I decided to try an AI reader. Weird thing, it pulled the exact same three-card spread I’d gotten that morning in my personal practice. Not sure what to make of that.

I think some of these newer sites are actually pretty different from the old ones. Yeah the old random generators were pointless, but the AI readers now actually look at how cards work together in a spread.

I tried one recently that gave me really specific interpretations, not just generic fortune cookie stuff.

I think the best way to put it is it’s better than the “old style” random sites we used to have but it’s very, very far from a real tarot reader. Nothing beats intuition and a real human reader. But if you’re just looking for some self-reflection or can’t get to an actual reader, the good ones are way better than those old sites we used to mess around with.

Imagine your deepest ‘will my ex come back’ questions getting bundled with your birth chart and sold to the highest bidder. Next thing you know, you’re getting targeted ads for self-help books titled ‘Moving On From Mercury Retrograde Relationships’ and your insurance company mysteriously knows you asked about health concerns in your Saturn return.

It’s so refreshing to see someone thinking about the mechanics behind these things. Transparency in randomness doesn’t equal genuine Tarot wisdom.

An AI would’ve just nodded along with my first guess and moved on. The back-and-forth with your own intuition is part of what makes tarot valuable. If the tool just validates whatever you say, you’re not really learning or getting challenged in the ways that matter.

I was actually pretty surprised by how good the interpretations were. It wasn’t just random card meanings thrown together - the AI seemed to understand how different cards relate to each other in a spread.

It would maybe be useful to someone who is learning how to do readings for themselves and learning the card meanings and combinations.

For me, I need to actually see the cards being shuffled and drawn. Without watching someone handle a physical deck in real-time, it just feels like clicking buttons on a screen. These AI sites never show you the actual card-pulling process, just instant results that could’ve been pre-generated for all we know. The whole ritual and energy exchange of a reading gets lost when you can’t even see the cards being selected.

I hear your frustration. My grandmother always said ‘a tool is only as good as the hand that wields it,’ and I think that applies here too. The old random card generators were pretty basic, just generic meanings like ‘The Fool means new beginnings’. The AI ones can analyze card combinations and positions, so the readings feel less copy-pasted.

But they’re still really just the same thing as the old sites and I wouldn’t really use them myself.
