As a tarot reader who’s been working with the cards for many years (and has taught quite a few new readers along the way), I completely agree with your take on this.
I like starting with the question first when picking a spread - just use whatever fits what you’re actually asking instead of grabbing the most complicated one in the book.
The Celtic Cross gets recommended way too often as a “beginner” spread, it’s like handing someone a full novel when they’re just learning to read. Ten positions with layered meanings, timing elements, and positional interactions can feel like information overload and actually slow down the learning process.
Fair warning: If you start with a one-card daily pull, the Tower will show up on a Monday. It’s basically tarot law.
