Do You Read Upside Down Tarot Cards?

When I got into other types of cartomancy, reversals just became unnecessary for me.

The spread positions and the actual questions I was asking already showed me any obstacles or difficult stuff. The cards communicate everything, whether they’re upright or reversed.

Upside-down cards are just a conspiracy by the tarot industry to sell more decks! But honestly, they do add another layer to readings.

I get what you’re saying.

I had a reversed card come up this morning, which was odd because I’m not usually into reading reversals. They don’t usually fit my style. But sometimes, you just can’t ignore them.

Like last week, I kept pulling the reversed Three of Cups. It was in every single spread, so I figured I should pay attention. I think both upright and reversed cards have their place. Sometimes the upright meanings are what we need, and other times the reversed ones are just louder. It’s about what feels right at that moment.

The cards have their way of getting the message across.

Some decks really need reversals to work properly, the Thoth deck especially. When Crowley designed those cards, he built in polarities that flip when they’re upside down.

My RWS clone though? Those images already tell complete stories when they’re upright. You don’t really need to worry about reversals with most decks.
