Started using the Next World Tarot at parties after having the same problem with my old deck. Slow Holler might work too. It’s made by a bunch of Southern artists so each card has its own style and perspective.
Yeah I had similar feelings when I used the Motherpeace. It mixes so many things, yoga, Jung, pieces from various spiritual practices.
You know what, typing this out makes me realize that’s exactly the issue. They wanted to create some kind of universal spiritual deck so they just borrowed from everywhere. No wonder it feels problematic.
The Circo Tarot and Moonchild Tarot might work better for you. Both have inclusive, feminine energy minus the cultural appropriation.
If you personally don’t like working with them, I’d cleanse the deck with selenite before giving them away. Seems to help clear out any of my energy that’s stuck to the cards.
When I first got into tarot as a skeptic, I found my gut reaction to a decks art matters more than what anyone else says. If the Motherpeace still bothers you after spending some time with it, its probably not for you. Set it aside.
I’ve been using Motherpeace and it brings up interesting cultural stuff. My American friends tend to focus on the yoga and Indigenous elements in it.
Italian folks I know see it more as 70s feminist art. Brazilian friends have pointed out how some decks mix Afro-diasporic religions with goddess imagery, which I hadn’t really thought about before. If you want something with a similar vibe that works well in diverse groups, Luna Sol Tarot is good.
Our Tarot is another one, it has portraits of historical women with sources listed.
