The Spades suit corresponds to Winter.
The Ace specifically connects to late December mostly around the winter solstice. In traditional European cartomancy, this was considered the most challenging time of year, which adds weight to the card’s transformative energy. Endings in winter, new growth in spring.
Spades generally indicate the slowest timeframes in cartomancy. Think weeks to months rather than days. Even a single Spade in an otherwise fast spread slows the entire reading down.
Some traditional sources associate any Ace with Sunday as a day-of-the-week marker.
Tarot, Astrology & Numerology Connection
The Ace of Spades corresponds directly to the Ace of Swords in traditional Tarot. Both cards share themes of mental clarity, breakthroughs, truth, and the double-edged nature of intellectual power.
Here’s the crucial difference, though. The Ace of Swords in tarot is predominantly positive.
Clarity, truth, new ideas. The Ace of Spades in cartomancy is structurally heavier because a 52-card deck has no Major Arcana to absorb archetypal weight. The Ace of Spades essentially carries the energy of the Ace of Swords, the Death card, and elements of the Tower all compressed into one card.
