Dark Wood Tarot Review?

Does anyone use the Dark Wood Tarot Deck?

I know I don’t need another deck but… I really like the art style, and there is a good deal of it. Does anyone use it as a main deck? What do you think about it? (I do know about the popular tarot deck thread, but I think I already have all of them already and I don’t think it has anything for Dark Wood).

Thanks!

For those unfamiliar:

I don’t hate the deck, but I don’t love it either. There’s a whole thread on dark Tarot decks that I think do the theme far more justice, but there’s also nothing wrong with using it as your main deck if you resonate with it.

I don’t think it’ll change how you work the Tarot or the RWS system, but if you like the art style for it, go for it. Otherwise, it’s a bit pricy for just the look.

Yes, this is my main deck! I love the artwork. It has this dark, atmospheric quality that drew me in right away. Something about the Dark Wood deck just felt right when I picked it up.

I’ve tried a bunch of different decks, but this one makes sense with me more than the others. Would definitely recommend it if you like that style. I think as @Sploots said it won’t change the system for you but if you like art style you’ll enjoy using the deck.

Dark Wood is a boxed set that includes a proper 300-page book. Not just a little pamphlet like most decks. So the card meanings are pretty clear.

If you do intuitive readings you might lean a little darker/heavier with the meanings from the artwork but that’s not always a bad thing.

My cat knocked my Dark Wood deck off the altar and the corner of the box split open. I emailed the publisher with photos and they sent a replacement box. They mentioned they’ve had some quality issues with this print run. If anyone else has problems with binding or packaging, might be worth contacting them.

I really like this deck for shadow work, so I’m glad I got it fixed.

IMO it looks very overpriced for what it is. I don’t like simple RWS decks with different art charging that much.

My Dark Wood gets used a lot. The cardstock is nice, matte finish, flexible and no glare under lights. Shows up well on camera if you do online readings.

I pull it out for clients who are into the witchy vibe, but mostly use it for myself. The art can be distracting for some people. If you get it, edge it with dark green or black marker. Helps with wear and makes the images pop. The rigid lines people complain about actually help me see patterns in spreads faster.

Yeah… overpriced RWS for me. No judgment on anyone who likes it but wouldn’t be my suggestion.
