First impressions of my Nightmare Before Christmas tarot deck

Just did my first deck interview with my new NBC deck, and the personality that came through was intense. The deck told me it’s here for shadow work and won’t sugarcoat anything. I pulled the Tower as “what you need to know about working with me” which feels very on-brand for Jack Skellington energy.

The artwork is stunning and each card captures that blend of whimsical and macabre. This deck is definitely going to push me out of my comfort zone.

Edit: Should mention I used a 6-card interview spread and the deck gave me Death as its strength card. Had to laugh at how Tim Burton that is! used a variation on this interview spread.

I might be a little biased in this one because I’m a huge fan of dark Tarot cards and a mega nerd of Nightmare Before Christmas. I had a custom-made NBC deck before the actual release happened, which I would actively use for readings, and I was so excited about this coming out.

Now to be fair I don’t think it’s going to change how you do a reading like a moon deck would, but if you do resonate with the artwork, then that alone can make an impact on your readings.

And I do. Waaay too much.

Just a quick note for those with an NBC deck-don’t leave it in the sun. Mine faded on the edges when I left it on the windowsill. Now I keep it wrapped in black silk to shield the artwork. It might be a bit over the top, but it does the trick.

With the NBC deck, its worth thinking about how you’ll manage reversals. The artwork already has a kind of upside-down feel. For example, The Hanged Man doesn’t seem all that different when it’s reversed.

Tower and Death for a deck interview, that’s quite the introduction. I do the three knocks thing too before the first shuffle. Something about getting the cards ready. This deck doesn’t pull punches. You ask it something simple and it comes back with brutal honesty wrapped in spooky imagery. Very on-brand for NBC. Started leaving candy corn out during readings with it. Just feels right with the whole Halloween aesthetic.

The NBC decks are really popular right now. I managed to snag mine for just $18, which was a nice discount from the original $36 price. It’s a good tool for confronting some difficult truths lurking in your mind.

Just wanted to share my deck interview with the Nightmare Before Christmas Tarot. Been wanting this deck for a while and finally got around to sitting down with it. The artwork really captures that Tim Burton vibe while keeping the traditional tarot meanings intact.

It’s got that Halloween meets Christmas feel that works well. Did an interview spread and the deck has quite a personality, playful but with depth. Makes sense for something that mixes two holidays like that.

That Tower pull is like the ‘This is Halloween’ scene, all screaming but weirdly necessary. Saw someone do a shadow work spread for dark decks that asks stuff like ‘what illusions will you help me shatter?’

My NBC deck pulled The Devil for ‘how you’ll challenge me’ and yeah. these decks don’t mess around. They’ve got that Jack energy where everything needs shaking up.

The deck might look like a novelty item, but it has all the same symbolic depth as traditional decks. The theme actually adds more symbolism on top of the regular tarot meanings. The core archetypes are still there. If you approach them like any other deck, the readings are just as meaningful. I’ve used both modern themed decks and vintage ones in my collection, and they both work well.

The deck feels good to handle. Cardstock is on the thin side which was a bit disappointing at first. But I do like the overall vibe of it, which is why I bought it in the first place. Only used it once so far for a reading. Seems promising though, I think it’ll be a good addition to my collection.

New moon readings with my NBC deck tend to be more challenging to interpret. Full moon though? Much clearer messages. That Fool card showing Jack on Spiral Hill adds another layer to the usual new beginnings meaning, there’s something about accepting the weird parts of yourself in there too.

Lots of fake ounes out there but I got the real one when it came out too. Getting the Tower in your deck interview fits the Halloween Town theme pretty well. That whole upside-down chaos thing.
