I picked up the Star Spinner Tarot last week and I’m having mixed feelings about it - sorry if this sounds nitpicky but I’m genuinely curious if others have noticed this too.
The artwork is absolutely gorgeous overall, but I can’t shake the feeling that the Chalices suit got way more love than the others? Like, the Chalices cards have these rich, intricate details and vibrant colors that just pop off the page, while the Wands and Swords feel almost rushed in comparison.
It’s throwing me off because I’ve never had a deck where one suit feels so much more “complete” than the others, and I’m wondering if this affects readings at all. Has anyone else worked with this deck and found a way to connect with it despite the uneven artistic energy? I really want to love it because some of the cards are breathtaking, but this imbalance is making it hard for me to feel grounded when I shuffle.
Would love to hear if I’m overthinking this or if others have had similar experiences!

I don’t think you’re overthinking this at all, it’s important how we resonate with a deck.
I hadn’t consciously noticed the imbalance, but now that you mention it, I can see what you mean. Still, the overall charm of the deck is still there and it hasn’t affected my readings.
Maybe the artist just had a particularly strong connection to the Chalice themes?
I’ve been working with Star Spinner alongside my other decks and noticed the Chalices actually mirror how water energy tends to dominate readings when emotions are at play, seeing how different readers interpret this ‘imbalance’ in their actual spreads really shifted my perspective on whether it’s a bug or a feature of the deck’s design.
So I gave the Star Spinner Tarot a shot when I had this reading that I really needed answers for, like, pretty quickly?
And honestly, it just wasn’t hitting the mark for me. You know how some decks just flow and this one… didn’t? The suits are all over the place - some have way more cards than others - and when you’re trying to get a quick read on something, it’s like. I just couldn’t get that instant interpretation I was looking for. Made the whole thing way more complicated than it needed to be.
The deck really seems to appeal to my reading style, though I’m still exploring all its nuances.
From what I’ve noticed, the swords and wands feel a bit more minimalist in their imagery, which might just be my interpretation. The coins and chalices, on the other hand, strike me as particularly rich in detail and symbolism. What really draws me to this deck is its inclusive approach - it feels like the simplicity in some cards actually serves that purpose well.
Still learning how to work with the more pared-down images, but there’s something refreshing about that clarity.
It takes about a month of regular use for the Star Spinner Tarot to feel like a real part of your practice. The initial adjustment period is worth it as you’ll start noticing how the deck’s unique quirks actually-wait, did I just call them quirks? That’s actually perfect because they really are these delightful little oddities that somehow make your readings so much richer. Anyway, yes, those quirks genuinely improve your readings in ways you wouldn’t expect.
Maybe using crystals like amethyst while reading can make better your connection to the Star Spinner’s unique vibrancy. Also, maybe setting intentions with the deck’s energy flows-each suit might be inviting different meditative journeys.
The seemingly unbalanced artwork helped me sharpen my intuitive reading skills. Focusing more on the imagery of the Cups and Pentacles, I learned to trust my, wait, no, sorry, I meant the Wands and Swords. By focusing on those, I learned to trust my gut feelings more, which has been a surprising yet rewarding experience.
I really like the look of the deck (personal preference), but I do understand why some people wouldn’t. My rule of thumb is if you’re not struck by the deck right away, don’t use it. Give it to someone else who might find use in it.
Hey! New to tarot here too and I actually had the opposite experience with Star Spinner - the wands totally captivated me while the others felt more standard.
Reading the guidebook helped a lot. Their explanations of the elemental associations made the artistic choices make sense. My readings have been eerily accurate with this deck!
Those multiple lovers cards are great, btw. I just pick the one that feels right for the reading and put the others away.
Give it some time, sometimes you and a deck just need to get used to each other.
Each suit carrying a different visual weight could be deliberate. The detailed Chalices might be asking you to spend more time with emotional themes rather than speeding through to Wands or Swords.
Ha! My Star Spinner cards stick together when I shuffle. I joke that the Chalices are so loaded with gorgeous detail they’re pulling the lighter suits into their orbit.
I felt the same way at first! The guidebook helped, though - once I understood their reasoning for the elemental associations, the ‘simpler’ cards started feeling intentionally minimalist rather than rushed.
The multiple Lovers cards initially confused me, but now I pick whichever one fits my current situation before shuffling. Makes the readings flow better.
My readings have been surprisingly spot-on despite my early doubts. Maybe the artistic variety adds something?
I dropped my Star Spinner in a puddle last month (classic me) and the Chalices cards dried with these beautiful water stains that actually enhanced the artwork…
Now I’m wondering if the universe was trying to tell me something about embracing watery chaos. At least the deck survived better than my dignity did.
I like to cleanse my star spinner deck regularly, especially after intense readings. Something about that simple ritual helps keep the connection strong. Not sure why it works but it does.
Love my Star Spinner so much. The accuracy is wild, felt like instant connection from day one.
Did you know some people believe decks sync with their owner’s energy? Makes sense why some decks just click right away.
Used it recently for a friend who was heartbroken (crush started dating someone else). Let him pick a card over video - Nine of Swords. He started crying, said he felt unlovable.
Asked if he wanted to pull one more for his romantic future. The Lovers came up. Everything shifted.
The cards knew exactly what he needed. This deck goes deep and it works for everyone I read for. Definitely recommend if you want something that truly connects.
Try sleeping with the deck under your pillow during the new moon! My grandma swears it helps balance out any quirks. She says uneven decks just need some dream-time to settle.
The plainer Wands actually remind me of traditional pip cards, which gives more room for interpretation.
Plus, even with the artistic differences, those metallic lavender backs and the overall vibe still make it feel like one cohesive deck when you’re using it.
