Need New Tarot Questions to Ask

Life’s been really quiet lately and I keep wanting to pull cards but have nothing to ask about. No drama, no big decisions, just… normal life stuff.

Started asking things like “What energy should I focus on this week?” but running out of ideas. Sometimes I read about news events or historical stuff just to practice.

What tarot questions do you ask when nothing’s really happening? Looking for creative ideas beyond the usual “what do I need to know today” pulls. How do you keep your practice going during the boring times?

When life gets quiet, I started treating my deck like a wise friend I’m getting to know better. I pull two cards with ‘What do I need to know about you today?’ and ‘What can I learn from you right now?’

Something about this feels right.

It’s like interviewing your deck about its perspective on your current energy instead of asking about specific stuff. Yesterday my deck basically told me through the Ace of Swords reversed that I was overthinking the need for ‘big’ questions, which made me laugh.

Guilty as charged.

I want to admit something…

When things got too quiet, I’d pull cards to get a better handle on my dreams. Not really interpreting (like this sort of spread) them but asking questions like, ‘What’s this nightmare trying to tell me?’ or ‘Which figure showed up last night?’

Once, The Tower card came up when I dreamed about my childhood home flooding, and it made me realize why I felt off about visiting my parents. Letting the cards shine a light on those hidden parts of our minds feels super personal.

Started doing readings for my houseplants - I know, sounds ridiculous but I swear it works.

I pull cards asking what they need energetically. Someone at a party last week had us all pulling cards for random objects. Cars, phones, coffee mugs, whatever. The idea is that everything holds energy. My laptop reading last week was actually spot on.

Perfect practice for quiet days too.

During peaceful times, I do a lot of gratitude spreads.

Three simple cards, what am I overlooking, what good thing seems boring, and how can I appreciate the small stuff? Keeps the practice going when you don’t have any drama to work through.

I love that the cards still have something to say even in the quiet times.

When life’s pretty stable, that’s actually when I reach for my deck most. Try pulling cards to uncover what’s happening beneath the surface, stuff you might not even realize is there. Or use them to guide your personal growth. They’re also great for figuring out how to direct your energy in ways that help you and the people around you. These are the spreads I use when nothing urgent is going on.

Keeps the connection with the cards alive and you’d be surprised what comes up! Hope you find something here that works for you.

You could try reading the rooms in your place. Go room by room with your deck and see what energy each space holds. I did this last week and the results were spot on.

Does anyone else use tarot cards for writing inspiration?

I’ve been experimenting with pulling cards to help develop my stories, and it’s been pretty cool.

When I’m stuck on a scene or need to flesh out a character, I’ll draw a card or do a small spread. The imagery and meanings give me fresh angles I wouldn’t have considered. Like yesterday, I pulled the Tower for my protagonist and realized she needed a major shake-up in chapter 3. The nice thing is it works both ways, my storytelling practice has actually deepened how I read the cards, too.

Each reading becomes its own mini narrative now.

I like pulling cards for future me when things are quiet. Questions like ‘What will matter in six months?’ or ‘What would older me say?’ Reading for different time periods gives you perspective. The cards feel special when you’re thinking ahead versus focusing on today.

Open-ended questions work so much better than yes/no ones.

Something like ‘What’s this teaching me?’ lets the cards actually talk to you. Try this - meditate with The Hermit and ask what you might be missing in your everyday routine. Or use The Star to think about the good things you’re not seeing in normal moments.

These bigger questions let you work with your intuition instead of pushing for certain answers. Makes even dull days more interesting.

A lot of people save tarot for special occasions, but daily pulls work great too.

I started pulling cards during random moments. Making breakfast, taking breaks at work, whatever. The regular practice actually makes you more aware of what’s happening around you. Instead of rushing through stuff on autopilot, you start noticing things. It turns boring daily tasks into something more meaningful. Pretty cool benefit that doesn’t get mentioned much.

So my familiars just scattered my tarot deck everywhere. Again. It actually got me thinking, though. I’ve been doing a lot of readings about personal growth lately - asking the cards to show me how to step into who I’m supposed to be.

What should my next moves be? I keep pulling cards about shadow work, too. There’s stuff I’ve been avoiding that needs attention, and the tarot keeps calling me out on it. Not fun, but necessary.

My readings have also been focused on connection lately. How to strengthen my relationships and also just. connect better with myself, you know? The universe seems to be preparing something big too. I keep getting transformation cards, change cards. Trying to stay open to whatever’s coming.

My cats always plant themselves on the exact card that ends up being most important. Every single time. Do your pets have this kind of intuition too?

Quiet times are perfect for shadow work. They give us a chance to think about how we relate to boredom. Grab some cards and ask, ‘What am I avoiding when I stay busy?’ or ‘What parts of me come out only in silence?’

These questions might help you understand yourself a bit better.

LOL the ‘tell me what I need to hear’ spread, because apparently we’re all too stubborn to listen to actual people. Your-guide posted a general tarot spread you could use if you’re stuck on what to do.

I use this one all the time when I’m in denial about something. The cards have this way of just. calling you out, you know? It’s honestly such a solid question to ask though. They always seem to nail exactly what message you need.

What insights are the cards nudging you to check out today? Shuffle through your deck and notice what catches your attention. What messages are jumping out at you? Follow your instincts and let the cards show you something new.

Deck interviews are my go-to when things get boring. I just shuffle and ask the deck about itself (what vibe it has, what it wants to teach me, what readings it’s best for. Always reveals something new, even with decks I’ve used forever. Feels like getting to know them all over again.
