Simple full moon tarot spread needed

So the full moon is coming up and I want to do something different this time.

Usually, I just pull a few cards randomly, but I keep seeing people mention specific spreads for the full moon.

Does anyone have a go-to spread they use? I tried searching, but there are a million different ones, and honestly, some of them are way too complicated with 15+ cards.

Looking for something more like 5-7 cards max, but I’m okay with three cards if they’re interesting.

I get the overwhelm with those massive spreads. When energy’s already intense during a full moon, simpler is usually better.

My favorite is a 5-card spread that works really well with the full moon energy:

You could simplify to 3 cards: Release/Receive/Balance. Same concept but quicker.

Full moons amplify whatever energy’s already there, so if you’re feeling activated or your thoughts are spiraling, maybe wait a day or two after the peak.

The cards tend to be clearer when you’re not in that surge.

Here’s a spread I use when I can’t make up my mind, the 5-card Moonlit Verdict.

Card positions are:

  1. Evidence For
  2. Evidence Against
  3. Blind Spot
  4. Outcome if you proceed
  5. Ruling (your next step)

Our tarot group does full moon readings where everyone pulls a card for the collective energy. We put them in a circle on the floor, with 12 people last month it actually looked like a clock.

We stick to 3 cards per person now (past/present/future basically) because more than that and people start going off on tangents. Someone had the idea to do readings at the exact full moon time, so now we’re all logging on at random hours.

I’m not sure if it actually matters, but we’re committed to it now.

Try arranging your cards to match the full moon’s zodiac sign.

Archer shape for Sagittarius, scales for Libra, that kind of thing. The visual helps you remember card positions and adds another layer of meaning to the reading.

5-7 cards work best for making recognizable shapes.

Get two decks for full moon readings.

Use one deck for what’s illuminated and another deck (darker ones work well) for the shadow side of the same position.

I tried this last week, pulled The Star for illumination and 4 of Pentacles for its shadow. Basically showed me I’m holding too tight to something that needs to flow.

Thank you for this. Full moon got me feeling all over the place yesterday. Pulled a couple of cards, Signal and Noise. Helped me sort through some stuff, but honestly still felt pretty scattered

I really like the ‘Blind Spot’ position - that’s such a smart addition for full moon work. We think the full moon illuminates everything, but it also creates shadows at the same time. This spread would be perfect for those times you get stuck between two options and the full moon energy is making everything feel more urgent rather than clearer.

Will try this!

Funny timing - was just shuffling my deck when I saw this at 3:33. Going to give one of these spreads a shot for the full moon tonight.

Oh wow, the exact full moon time commitment! That’s dedication. I wonder how much of a difference does that make to your practice do you think?

I’m going to be trying my first-ever two-deck reading this full moon!

Was just sitting with my cards, deciding on a full moon spread, and this popped up. That 5-7 card range feels like a solid balance. Ill probably pull six and see how it reads.

I’ve been curious about this too! Part of me thinks the intentionality of timing it exactly probably amplifies the reading more than the actual astrological moment itself – like, you’re putting that much focus and energy into it, which has to count for something.

That said, I’ve noticed my readings do feel a bit more charged when I’m closer to peak full moon (even if not exact). Could be confirmation bias, or could be that the energy really is more concentrated then. I’m cautiously optimistic there’s something to it, even if we can’t totally explain why.

Either way, the commitment itself shows you’re treating it as sacred time, and that mindset shift alone might be what makes the difference in the clarity of your readings.
