In Wicca, new moons are for fresh starts. I usually draw one card at the new moon to set my intention, then another at the full moon to see what comes up. Timing the spread with the lunar phases adds a nice natural rhythm to it.
I’m trying to journal every two-card pull for 30 days, especially what actually happened after. It really shows which combinations I misread.
Last month I did a two-card pull while agonizing over whether to speak up in a family conflict. Four of Cups as the situation, Six of Wands as the response. The Four called me out. I had been “meditating” on the problem when really I was just sulking and refusing what was already sitting there in front of me, and the Six was basically shoving me forward to own my voice.
That is what I love about this spread. It does not let you hide behind “nuance” the way a Celtic Cross does. Two cards, you either take the message or you do not.
I love using spreads like this when my friends or family just want a quick reading. Nice and easy, keeps things light and fun.
Rider Waite scenes keep the two cards as distinct figures, so their back and forth stays clear and direct. Thoth decks layer symbols over each other, which makes the response feel like it grows straight out of the situation card. Marseille line work strips it down even more, leaving just the shapes to carry the tension between the pair.
