Christian Tarot Decks?

I know we’re talking about the idea of Christian Tarot readers, but what about Christian Tarot decks?

Are there decks out there that work with Christianity or feature the faith in some way?

They’re not hugely popular, but there are a couple of specific Christian ones.

The first is the obvious one. Biblical features and a guidebook. Probably exactly what you’re looking for. It’s not the best quality deck I’ve ever seen, but it’s certainly Christian.

If you’re happy to work with Oracle, then the Angel Tarot would be my suggestion. Again, not top tier but it’s a solid deck and, again, all Christian themed. Has a guidebook but the meanings are also printed on the cards.

There was the Jesus Miracle oracle deck but there are nowhere near enough cards to actually use, it’s for a collection at best I think.

Hi all, I’ve found that Christian-themed decks often resonate differently with the changing liturgical seasons. During Advent, decks like the Angel Tarot, which focus on anticipation and hope, seem to have a special meaning. This is particularly true for the Guideposts edition of the Angel Tarot. During Lent, decks that stress transformation and renewal also seem to connect more deeply.

Someone brought up the Angel Tarot by Travis McHenry, it does have Christian elements but I think it’s more about angelic associations than following Christian doctrine.

It’s like how playing cards have different origin theories. The Angel Tarot draws from various angelic traditions, not just Christianity. The Biblical Tarot might be what you’re looking for if you want something that really follows Christian theology.

It’s actually built on biblical teachings rather than just using the imagery.

Has anyone used the Tarot of the Saints? It replaces court cards with saints.

The King of Cups is St. Francis, and Joan of Arc is the Queen of Swords. The artwork is really nice, and the saint stories bring a new layer to the card interpretations. Even my Catholic aunt, who usually avoids tarot, borrowed mine because she saw her patron saint on the Three of Pentacles.

I was looking through my Rider-Waite deck again last night and realized how much Christian imagery is in there.

Like, The Lovers card is literally Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. The Ace of Cups looks like communion with the dove and chalice thing. And The High Priestess? She’s wearing those blue robes like the Virgin Mary, complete with the crescent moon at her feet. Never really noticed all this before.

I’ve been pairing The Star and The World in my Saints and Angels deck lately. The combination gives off a vibe of hope meeting fulfillment - not the same feeling you get with standard decks at all.

my Christian deck gives me something I never got in church - actual responses when I pray.

it’s like the cards became this bridge to talk with the divine. The Holy Spirit speaking through symbols we can understand, you know? for me, pulling cards is just praying in a different way. instead of waiting for answers in silence, they come through the images and meanings.

Didn’t know this before but Arthur Edward Waite was Catholic. He’s the guy who created the Rider-Waite deck that everyone uses. I also read somewhere that Pope John Paul II had ‘Meditations on the Tarot’ on his desk. Kind of unexpected.

I always figured Christian tarot would be the same cards with scripture added. The Connolly deck does something different though, they renamed the cards people find uncomfortable. Death becomes ‘change’, the Devil is ‘Materialism.’ They’re creating their own system that fits both traditions.

Off topic maybe but I’m looking for Christian tarot decks that pull from other traditions too. Anyone seen any good ones?

My grandmother used the Brotherhood of Light Egyptian Tarot. Had both Christian mysticism and Egyptian symbolism in it. She taught me about Moses being trained in Egyptian mysteries, so she didn’t see any conflict with her faith. Always said the hieroglyphics were just God speaking through symbols.

Saw this interesting religious tarot deck on Etsy, apparently it’s based on some ancient book.

The artwork caught my eye, lots of classical religious imagery. Edit: The listing said ‘Religious Tarot Deck Ancient Book of’ but I can’t remember the rest. Should’ve saved it, now I’m wondering what ancient text they used.

Ran into this interesting setup at a festival, Christians using fake tarot cards to talk to people about God. The cards looked exactly like regular tarot but had different meanings. They figured more people would stop for a card reading than a Bible conversation, which is probably true.

Still felt kind of weird though, like they were trying too hard to be relevant.
