Crystal Unicorn Tarot Reviews and Experiences

Just got my Crystal Unicorn Tarot deck yesterday after waiting months to order it. Longest I think I’ve ever made myself wait for a deck. The colors really are vibrant and the cardstock has this nice matte finish. Each card has these holographic accents that catch the light.

I’ve done a couple of practice readings so far and the imagery seems pretty intuitive. I like how they did the court cards with different unicorn breeds for each suit. Pulled the Three of Cups this morning and the artwork is really lovely with three unicorns at a crystal stream.

I do wonder if decks like this are maybe “too fun” and not paying the Tarot enough respect?

Has anyone else been working with this deck? I’d love to hear what you think of it and how it reads for you. Any favorite cards or spreads that work particularly well with it?

Oh and I thought I should add some other alternatives. These are less cartoony and a bit more serious but still unicorn themed. Yes, I have an addiction to unicorns.

For those who want a unicorn oracle deck there’s the Magic of Unicorns:

And the Celestial Unicorn Tarot.

I remember the time my Crystal Unicorn Tarot predicted my sister’s pregnancy way before she told anyone. The cards were so clear that day! After that reading, the matte finish picked up a lot of fingerprints. Since then, I’ve been more careful about cleaning the deck regularly.

It’s a pretty standard cutesy deck by any measure. I prefer something like the Last Unicorn deck personally but nothing wrong if you like this artwork more.

It brings out that part of me that loved unicorns and rainbows as a kid. The playful imagery helps me connect with the cards in a different way. It’s like it skips past the overthinking part of my brain and goes straight to that unguarded place. I’ve found it works really well for readings about creativity and joy. The childlike vibe opens things up in ways I didn’t expect.

I will be adding this one to my collection… Pity it seems so hard to actually find in print.

lol I know what you mean about waiting. I told myself no new decks for six months. made it three weeks before I saw a limited edition. Crystal Unicorn’s guidebook is good though, each card has its own page with crystal info, unicorn stuff, and actual card meanings. Pretty solid for a themed deck.

I noticed each Major Arcana card gets its own crystal while the suits just share one per suit. Adds more depth than I expected from such a playful deck. The childlike artwork paired with crystal correspondences is an interesting mix of playful and traditional.

Edit: this would work well for crystal grid layouts with readings, has anyone tried that?

I got this deck as a birthday gift for my six-year-old daughter, and she’s really taken with it! We’ve started a nice ritual where she joins me for my readings now.

Before we begin, we always take a few deep breaths together, and I teach her to imagine roots growing from her feet into the earth. It’s been a sweet grounding practice for both of us. She likes holding her deck while I shuffle mine, and sometimes she’ll pull a card just to enjoy the artwork.

It’s nice seeing the cards through her eyes.

I usually keep my favorite deck in its tin, but this one definitely needs something special. Those holographic parts can get scratched, and I want to keep them in good shape.

This deck fits really well with what I wanted to do in 2024 - more elemental work.

Each suit matches different unicorn habitats (forest, mountain, ocean, meadow), which connects the fantasy stuff with nature spirituality. I’ve been using it for new moon intention setting. I pull one card from each suit for what to plant, nurture, release, and manifest. The unicorns make shadow work feel less scary somehow.

Wasn’t expecting that, but it’s been helpful for the deeper healing sessions.

The pastel holographic design is pretty but hard to read when the lighting’s low. Kind of annoying when you want to do readings by candlelight. I ended up getting a small reading lamp. It helps, though it does mess with the mood a bit.

What surprised me about this deck is the crystal stuff in each card. The Major Arcana cards each have their own crystal, and the Minor suits have specific crystal types too. I thought it would be distracting but it actually helps with readings. It’s like having a crystal healing guide built right into the cards. Works better than I expected with the regular tarot meanings.

Just a warning, these cards are much bigger than standard decks.

Couldn’t do my usual riffle shuffle at a party reading last week - had to use overhand instead. On the plus side, the larger size means everyone can see the artwork when you’re reading for multiple people

Crystal grids with this deck could be really special! Since you already noticed how each Major has its own crystal, you might start simple - try placing the actual crystal that corresponds to whatever Major you pull in the center of your reading space. Once you see how that feels, you could gradually build up to more elaborate grid patterns around your spreads.

My friend asked if sparkly decks are any good for serious stuff.

I told her they can work just as well as any other deck. The style isn’t what determines the depth of the reading. As long as you approach it with the right mindset, you’ll see they can be pretty effective.

It’s not about the glitz; it’s about how you use them. Don’t let the appearance fool you into thinking they can’t do the job.

If unicorns help you connect with the cards, then use unicorns. The Three of Cups you pulled makes sense with that deck.

It’s already a happy card about friends and celebration, so unicorn imagery probably fits well with that energy. Different decks just speak to different people.

Has anyone looked at how they did the scary cards?

The Tower is now some sparkly crystal thing with unicorns floating around. Death turned into a unicorn going through a portal. I guess it makes the cards less creepy, but they still mean change and stuff.

Fantasy decks seem to work better for intuitive readings because people don’t overthink the symbols as much. My local tarot group usually sticks to decks with traditional or regional themes, so this one stands out.

The playful artwork gets people talking and brings in folks who’d normally avoid tarot altogether.

This deck is so pretty! I’m really into how they incorporated the crystals into the meanings - it adds a nice layer to the readings. The artwork is gorgeous too.
