The three-card spread has been my go-to for years, and this post nails why. Ground/snag/move is a fresh take on something tarot readers have been doing forever. The idea of reading three cards as a state rather than a timeline goes back to the Mind/Body/Spirit boom in the 80s and 90s. Mary K. Greer and Rachel Pollack were big on that, and it shifted things toward giving the querent more agency. That’s why moving the third card to “what to do” feels so much better for everyday reads than straight past/present/future.
I think your 2-card spread is a more modern take on this. I prefer at least 3 cards, though. A few other three-card spreads I like:
-
Situation/Obstacle/Lesson is great when you’re stuck on a specific issue. It often shows the real problem isn’t what you think.
-
Embrace/Accept/Let Go is helpful when I’m overthinking.
-
For relationships, I skip the future card and check you in the connection, them in the connection, plus the dynamic between you. It avoids turning the reading into a prediction game.
Solid post. This is the one I’d share with beginners.
